Introduction In order for a car to work properly and function. It needs gas. But what about us? How do humans get their energy?
3
Food Our bodies get energy from the food we eat. Food acts as the fuel for the human body. But how does this work?
4
Food First, the food we eat is digested and mixed with acids until it is broken down into another type of sugar, called glucose. Once this process is complete, the stomach and small intestines absorb the glucose and release it in to the bloodstream so that the glucose can be used for energy.
5
BMR and Metabolism The BMR or basal metabolic rate is the energy needed to do basic activities. Metabolism is a set the of chemical reactions involved in storing and converting food molecules into energy. http://app.discoveryeducatio n.com/search?Ntt=metabolis m http://app.discoveryeducatio n.com/search?Ntt=metabolis m
6
Energy Distribution 60% PINK: The Basal Metabolic Rate accounts for 60% of energy in the body GREEN: daily physical activities such as walking, accounts for 30% of energy in the body YELLOW: The remaining 10% accounts for the energy in thy body used ton digest and process food
7
Excess weight If one consumes more calories than the body uses, the excess weight is stored and weight is gained.
8
A healthy body In order to be healthy, the body requires a delicate balance between a healthy diet and physical activity. The caloric intake must equal the caloric output.
