Nature also generates solid waste Organic : Coming from plants or animals; by living organisms. Biodegradable :Able to be broken down by bacteria or other living organisms. When nature produces waste, it recycles it all! BRANCHES LEAVES EXCREMENTS DEAD ANIMALS

THE CYCLE OF MATTER Biodegradable – Able to be broken down by bacteria or other living organisms. Nature returns living organisms back to the earth after they die. As the organisms decompose, the nutrients they contain are broken down and returned to the soil, where they are available to be used by future plants and animals.

URBAN SOLID WASTE (PROBLEMS) People generates a lot of solid waste. Nature is not able to decompose everything. Not all the solid waste we generate is biodegradable.

BIODEGRADABLE: Organic waste Kitchen waste: coffee grounds fruit and vegetable peels eggshells

What is done with Organic solid waste? COMPOST: Rich organic product created by organic waste. –It looks like soil. –It is rich in carbon and nitrogen. –It is an excellent nutrient for plants.

What can we do?

3 R’s REDUCE: Reduce the amount of waste we generate. REUSE: Reuse many things before we throw away. RECYCLE: Separate materials before throw them to the container.
