6 BACKGROUND: ACTION SINCE THE LAST MEETING Meeting to combine the business plan and assign temporary roles 16 th January 2015 Research undertaken - formal structures - community asset registration - financial support The steering group was represented at the Council led meeting 12 th March 2015 Application for the registration of HCC as a community asset submitted March 2015

8 HOW CAN WE TAKE OWNERSHIP? Once the Community Asset registration has been agreed, and once the tender for the management of the centre is released we will need to bid in a competitive process. We will need to show the council that we are the best people to run the centre and will be competing against private firms We need a recognised formal legal structure Robust business plan Realistic funding strategy Strong financial reporting systems Track record of delivery

12 WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO NEXT Agree legal structure formally Elect board members/trustees Inaugural meeting - Agree charitable objectives - Election of officers (chair, secretary, treasurer) - Create a development action plan a) Develop Policies and Procedures b) Negotiating with the council c) Developing partnerships Apply to regulatory body Set up the bank account Raise match funding to have £5000 Apply to Charities Commission (if applicable)

15 WHAT IS INVOLVED IN BEING A MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE? You should have A connection to Hanwell Community Centre Regular attendance at meetings Areas of expertise or interest Passion for the project Understanding of commitment Active involvement in the advancement of Hanwell Community Centre

16 REPRESENTATION ON THE COMMITTEE We suggest the committee should be made up of : 1 representative from HBL 2 representative from council officers 1 representative local elected councillor 1 representative from Hanwell Community Forum 1 representative of Hanwell Traders Association 1 representative of HCC tenants group 5 people with connection to Hanwell Community Centre

17 SUPPORT ON OFFER We want to make sure that this board is representative of the local community, so don’t be put off if you have never been a board member before will provide Information about committee roles Training Mentoring
