Why are they important to me? Plants are natural resources from the earth In order to live we have to eat We feed our livestock from our crops

Fruits & Vegetables grow on plants and trees We need fruits and vegetables for food They are a large part of the food pyramid You should eat 5 servings of fruits or vegetables a day

Where do they grow? Fruits and vegetables grow on plants and trees They can grow above or below the ground Plants need sun, water, and pollination to bear fruit or vegetables.

Would you eat a root or a flower? Depending on the plant, the fruit can grow in different places Carrots, radishes, and turnips are the root of the plant. Lettuce, celery, and chard are the leaves of the plant. Corn grows in the middle of the plant. Broccoli is the bud of plant.

Fun Facts Herbs and spices come from plants and trees. Fruits and vegetables are ready to pick at different times of the year. Plants are called autotrophs because they can make their own food.
