EARTH’S BIOMES Biomes are defined as "the world's major communities, classified according to the predominant vegetation and characterized by adaptations of organisms to that particular environment"

RAINFOREST BIOME Rainforests are thick, warm and wet forests. They are forests that get at least 250 cm a year of rain, often more. There are two kinds of rainforest: tropical and temperate. Both kinds are endangered. Tropical rainforests are millions of years old, and temperate rainforests are about 10,000 years old.

DESERT BIOMES Deserts cover about one fifth of the Earth's surface and occur where rainfall is less than 50 cm/year.

MARINE BIOME Marine regions cover about three-fourths of the Earth's surface and include oceans, coral reefs, and estuaries.

GRASSLAND BIOME Grasslands are characterized as lands dominated by grasses rather than large shrubs or trees.

FRESH WATER BIOMES The Freshwater Biome accounts for one fifth of the area of the Earth and provides half of the drinking water, one third of the water used for irrigation, and nearly ninety percent of the world's bathwater.

FOREST BIOME Biomes represent the largest and most ecologically complex systems. They contain a wide assortment of trees, plants, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, insects and micro-or Forest organisms which vary depending on the zone's climates.

SAVANNA BIOME A savanna is a rolling grassland scattered with shrubs and isolated trees, which can be found between a tropical rainforest and desert biome.
