Ecosystem: 1.Producers Producers produce food for other animals e.g Trees, plants 2. Consumers Consumers eat the food that the producers provide e.g Herbivores (things that eat plants) Omnivores (things that eat meat and plants) Carnivores (things that eat meat) Insectivores (things that eat insects) 3. Decomposers Decomposers clean up the dead meat and plants lying on the ground e.g worms, fungi, bacteria, insectibites and toadstools

Why Are Forests Important? F ood O xygen R ecycling E njoyment S tops soil erosion T hings to use (e.g homes, medicine) S hade

More About Forests: Forests regulate temperature Inside (in summer) cooler Outside (in summer) warmer Inside (in winter) warmer Outside (in winter) cooler Forests filter the water for the streams and they stop soil eroding into the water

Recycling: When trees no longer need their leaves, they fall to the ground. They are then recycled by: fungi, bacteria and invertebrates (FBI). These decomposers attack the leaves. You can see this by the mould dots on the leaves or the chomped leaves. These ‘FBI’ go “chomp, chomp, chomp” then they go “poo, poo, poo”. All the nutrients from the fine poo is absorbed into the plants and used by them.

The Canopy Of The Forest Question: Are the leaves at the bottom of the forest the same as the ones at the top? Top Leaves: -Green -Little leaves -Grow up to get maximum sunlight Bottom Leaves: - Big leaves -Need more surface area to absorb light -Green Why The Top Leaves Are Little: The top leaves are little because they don’t need much sunlight since they are up there already up there getting the sunlight Why The Bottom Leaves Are Big: The bottom leaves are big because there isn’t much sunlight on the bottom of the forest so they need more surface area to take in sunlight. 7 Why Humans Cut Down Trees: 1.To be sold, exported as timber. We call this logging 2.To be used as farming land. 3.To make room for human settlement and urbanization 4. To make room for mining Source: eSchoolToday.com Deforestation: More Reasons Why We Should Not Cut Down Trees: 1.Trees Provide homes for many birds and small animals 2. Trees create beauty that helps to make our towns and cities more attractive

We MUST STOP Cutting Trees Down NOW! By Calum Bint Room 21
