HFM Distance Learning Project Teacher Survey 2003 – 2004 School Year... BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ The idea of being able to teach other students over the miles in real time is a great way to share ideas and offer subjects that may not otherwise be available in some districts. More classes can be offered as well as a diversity of students. It is a great way to expand the horizons of my students. Our students are able to interact with students outside of our school district. 1. What are the strengths of distance Learning? Comments

HFM Distance Learning Project Teacher Survey 2003 – 2004 School Year... BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ It is difficult at times to adequately interact with the students in the receiving school. Certain things activities, events etc. at the transmitting school can interfere with the flow of the class. It is difficult to make up work that has been missed. I found it very hard to hear students at the remote site. The class in Fonda was quite large so you never could see all students very well. It also was hard with differing class schedules to get much accomplished. It seems as though 20-24 students is a lot. This year we had only 1 very shy student at my home site. This was a bit tricky. At times audio problems made it difficult. The sound from the student microphones cut in and out 2. What are the weaknesses of Distance Learning? Comments
32
HFM Distance Learning Project Teacher Survey 2003 – 2004 School Year... BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ The receiving school should have computers as we did. I would like a CDR and USB port for my computer. Small classes – better microphones or a better way to hear clearer. If there is any way to do it, it would be great if schedules were the same. Please install a DVD player and speakers for our PC so that we can transmit PC sound over the network. 3. What changes would you suggest for distance learning classes? Comments
33
HFM Distance Learning Project Teacher Survey 2003 – 2004 School Year... BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ I have been doing this since we installed it and it gets better every year. 4. Are there any outcomes from teaching this course that you had not expected? Comments

HFM Distance Learning Project Teacher Survey 2003 – 2004 School Year... BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Elmo was a bonus. I was pleased to be able to play DVDs in the last quarter and CDs. I used the internet when teaching class. I was able to bring it on the TV for all to see. It was a great tool. I used the elmo and also made sure that there were plenty of handouts so that even if students had trouble hearing they could still get the material. We got a DVD player for movies this year. It is great. Comments 5. Did you use any new instructional methods to effectively teach in the DL classroom?

HFM Distance Learning Project Teacher Survey 2003 – 2004 School Year... BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Yes, once. All students will attend [a] wall street seminar in NYC [in] June. This is an outstanding Program! No but I felt I should have… or have had them visit [me.] Yes, we also organized a field trip as a group to Montreal. My schedule does not permit. Yes. I visited about 6-8 times so that I could establish a rapport with the students and check work. Comments 7B.
