Thinking about data…analyzing…  We are going to quietly think about the information I am about to give you.  We will have time to discuss the information later…  For now, just think and listen you may write down a thought to share later  If you have clarifying questions (you don’t quiet understand something), you may ask them.

6. How big is 7 Billion really? Here are some different ways that might help you envision the enormousness of 7 billion:envision the enormousness of 7 billion -- Seven billion seconds ago, the year was 1789. That was the year George Washington was inaugurated as the first U.S. president and Congress met for the very first time. -- If you took 7 billion steps along the Earth's equator -- at 2 feet per step -- you could walk around the world at least 106 times. -- Suppose an average thimble holds 2 milliliters of water. Seven billion of those thimbles would fill at least five Olympic-sized swimming pools. -- Seven billion ants, at an average size of 3 milligrams each, would weigh at least 23 tons (46,297 pounds). If you tried to count to 7 billion at the rate of 1 number each second, it would take you 221 years…WITH NO SLEEP!

7. American Consumption…  Americans constitute 5% of the world's population but consume 24% of the world's energy.  On average, one American consumes as much energy as  2 Japanese  6 Mexicans  13 Chinese  31 Indians  128 Bangladeshis  307 Tanzanians  370 Ethiopians  Americans eat 815 billion calories of food each day - that's roughly 200 billion more than needed - enough to feed 80 million people.  Americans throw out 200,000 tons of edible food daily.

8. American Consumption…  The average American generates 52 tons of garbage by age 75.  The average individual daily consumption of water is 159 gallons, while more than half the world's population lives on 25 gallons.  Fifty percent of the wetlands, 90% of the northwestern old-growth forests, and 99% of the tall-grass prairie have been destroyed in the last 200 years.  There are more shopping malls than high schools.

Say it, Write it, Pass it  Create word bubble graphics to show ideas, questions, thoughts, and feelings from the Sentence Frames.  Remember this is about these topics: Sustainability, Human Population Explosion, and Ecological Footprints. Say it, Write it, Pass it Groups have one pen and paper. Say answer to prompt, then write it, then pass pen and paper on. Each person has to write at least once. Go around until everyone is out of ideas/thoughts/questions.
