Towns were dirty No running water Waste and garbage thrown in streets – polluted rivers Rats and fleas were common, carried disease Common diseases: measles, cholera, scarlet fever YUCK!

Did their best to keep clean! Cleaned teeth with cloth; some used herbal pastes Bad teeth were pulled out; no anesthesia Washed hands Bathed in wooden barrels; cold water – wealthy had warm Scented clothing with lavender, rose petals, chamomile, daisies

It wasn’t ALL bad Children’s games: hoops, lawn bowling, blind man’s bluff, badminton Adult games: chess, checkers, card games Had dancing, music Children had toys: dolls, wooden swords, hobbyhorses Good Lord = lots of food and merry times Holidays
