Alliances What alliances were formed during the Civil War? The confederacy became Allies with France and Great Britain.

Ulysses S. Grant He was born in Point Pleasant, Ohio In 1854 he leaves the Army In 1865 he receives and accepts Robert E. Lee’s surrender at Appomattox In 1868 Grant was elected as president Ulysses S. Grant dies at Mount Gregor, New York on July 23 rd 1885

Stonewall Jackson -In 1826 Jackson’s dad and sister both die of the typhoid fever -In 1854 his wife Elinor dies giving birth (she had internal bleeding) -On July 16 th, 1857 he marries Mary Anna Morrison -In 1861 Jackson was promoted to Major General of Valley Army -On May 10 th, 1863 he dies of pneumonia at age 39

Civil War Affects The United States abolished slavery Our country became safer for blacks Racial groups were started in the South Racial break outs still continued over the next 100 years, towards blacks and mixed blood Racial Tension The KKK was formed

Fort Sumter This battle started on April 12 th and ended on April 14 th of 1861 This instance caused the Civil War to break out which is considered to be the “Bloodiest War in American History”

Battle of Bull Run In July 1861 Northern newspapers were pressuring Abraham Lincoln to bring an end to the rebellion happening in the Southern states While the Union troops stopped to rest near a small creek called “Bull Run” the Confederates snuck up on them and the fighting began.

Battle of Antietam Occurred on September 16 th –September 18 th 1862 Took place in Antietam, Maryland First major battle to happen on Northern soil Bloodiest single day battle, as far as casualties go, in American history

Battle of Gettysburg Considered to be the “costliest battle of the American Civil War” From July 1-3 1863 there were 51, 112 individuals either killed, wounded, captured or missing in this battle. The Confederates continued to try and fight but after this battle it was obvious the Union would win.

Civil War Ends General Robert E. Lee was hoping to reach his supplies at Lynchburg but instead got surrounded by Union on three sides. General Lee surrendered to Lieutenant General Grant on April 9 th, 1865 The outcome was the Union’s Victory and 700 casualties.

Truth or Not? Book Fact: 16 African American soldiers got a medal of honor in the Civil War Internet Fact: 25 African American soldiers got a medal of honor in the Civil War This proves that books tend to be more accurate than the internet because people can revise anything nowadays and it might not be factual.
