1 National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA)

2 NEPA is… A US environmental law that was enacted on January 1 st, 1970.It is enforced by the EPA A law including a national environmental policy and requirements that ensure that agencies consider this policy in their decision making process

3 Functions This puts requirements on airports, buildings, highways that are being built and other federal activities that are proposed The most common requirements of the Act are Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs)

4 EISs and EAs An EA (Env. Assessment) is a statement that tells whether or not an EIS will be required An EIS (Env.Impact Statement) is a statement that must be generated for any major project before it is built It must describe the environmental impacts that their project will have
