2013-14 – Last Year ELA (UPK-9 th Grade) Mathematics (5 th – Algebra) 2014-15 – This Year ELA (10 th Grade) Mathematics (UPK-4 th Grade and Geometry) 2015-16 – Next Year ELA (11 th Grade) Mathematics (Algebra II) 2016-17 ELA (12 th Grade) Mathematics (Pre-Calculus)
3
Our students who had to take the first administration of a new CC Regents (last year in Algebra and this year in Geometry), were/are allowed to take both (the CC Regents and the “old” Regents) and use the highest of the 2 grades NYS has indicated this may not be available to our Algebra II students next year, it’s possible the CC Regents may be all they can take
4
Our 11 th graders next year (2015-16), will be the first group of South Lewis students to take the CC English Regents However, we have now seen 2 years of examples of this Regents, and our ELA 9 and 10 ELA has switched to CC instruction
5
The graduating class of 2022, our current 5 th graders, may need to reach a Level 4, equivalent to our current scale score of 80 in math and 75 in English, in order to pass those Regents – it’s called hitting the Aspirational Measure (considered College and Career Ready) Until then, a 65 will continue to be considered passing
6
NYS SS Framework was adopted about a year ago NYS strongly recommends that districts implement instruction aligned to the new framework in non-tested grades (K-8 and 12) no later than the start of next year (2015-16)
7
A lot of the content taught is similar to the “old” SS standards However, the approach to teaching SS will become more inquiry based, using primary documents, research, student development of questions and conclusions, thematic/conceptual, etc.
8
Our current 7 th graders will take the first new Global 10 Regents and US History Regents June 2018 Global History & Geography II first administration June 2019 US History & Government first administration Different: The Framework divides Global History & Geography coursework into two units Global History & Geography I (Grade 9: Paleolithic era- 1750) Global History & Geography II (Grade 10: 1750- present) Global Regents only tests 10 th gr. (our current Global Regents tests 9 th and 10 th gr)
10
Framework Field Guide (includes a sample unit on Reconstruction that is appropriate for 7 th or 8 th gr.) Toolkit Project (NYS is working with SUNY Binghamton to create inquiries and curriculum resources available for teachers) Brain Honey (we will possibly be getting accounts for all SS teachers to access the SS curriculum OHM BOCES has available through Brain Honey)
11
We anticipate that the new Science standards will be a combination of the Next Generation Sci. Standards and the current NYS Sci. Standards. Winter 2014-15 Determine core science content, conceptual understandings, and practices required of all students. Benchmark student expectations. Determine architecture of standards document. Spring 2015 Write draft standards. Summer 2015 Post draft standards for stakeholder review and comment. Fall 2015 Revise standards, based on review and comment. Winter 2016 Propose science learning standards for Board of Regents’ adoption.
12
If new Science Standards get adopted in the 2015-16 school year (next year), we would expect that it will be at least a year to two before we are expected to implement them, and then more time before we should expect changes to Science state exams and Regents This will be coming in the next 2-5 years
13
Eventually, the state plans to provide guidance/support in the following 6 areas: Standards Curriculum Professional Development to Enhance Instruction Assessment Materials and Resource Support Administrative and Community Support
