Lacey Act of 1900 Created by John F. Lacey and made into a law by President William McKinley on 5/25/1900 Most significant amendments in 1969, 1981, 1988 National law (conservation) Enforced by Secretary of Transportation and the Secretary of the Treasury

What is the law? The Lacey Act says that it is illegal for any person to import, export, transport, sell, receive, acquire, or purchase any fish or wildlife or plant taken, possessed, transported, or sold in violation of any law, treaty, or regulation of the United States or in violation of any Indian tribal law whether in interstate or foreign commerce Used to prevent the spread/importation of potentially non native species First federal law protecting wildlife
