1 Forensic Team part of Walsall Disability Services

2 In 1997 a Team of Nurses/Social Workers were in an institution. We escaped to the Learning Disability Community Team. Our role is to support ‘offenders’ throughout Walsall.

3 An offender is someone who has broken the law or who we think is very likely to break the law. We support them and help them to improve their behaviour. We encourage them to be dependable and honest.

5 Where we go and who we work with Prisons Secure Units/Hospitals Home Office Probation Police Courts Dr Khan

6 Aims – Define Criteria Impairment of social functioning and ability to understand consequences Moderate/mild learning disabilities Behaviour which could lead to custodial involvement, including arson, sex offences, serious harm to others Indirectly, actions resulting in serious implications for others e.g. hoax callers

7 Aims Tool for Police Custody Sergeant (1 yr) Liaise with probation (9 months) Referral pathway Liaise with other forensic teams Court Diversion Forensic database of Appropriate Placements

8 We support offenders and potential offenders (and their families) in their own homes, care homes, secure units and prisons.
