 Problem Statement: The biggest problem in Lakota is transportation.  Our three solutions are: Redistricting, re-routing buses, and making students within a 1 mile radius of the school walk. LAKOTALAKOTA Problem Statement/Solution

 One source of assistance is http://www.lakotaonline.com/students.cfm?subpage= 375 because it helped us understand the main issues and possible solutions.  Another source of assistance are volunteers that would monitor and take care of students that walk to school.  General Warehousing, Road Transportation Support Services, would be a source of assistance because it would supply the buses and help coordinate rerouting and redistricting. Also they can help us evaluate our plan by taking surveys.  Also parents might be able to help by driving car pools and encouraging their kids to walk to school. LAKOTALAKOTA Sources of Assistance

Resistance  1. It is possible that guardians or children, may not want to walk or ride a bike to school. (For safety and time consuming reasons)  2. Guardians and children may also not want to change schools. (Not wanting to leave friends or parents may not like the new school as much)  3.Children and their guardians may run into transportation problems from getting to and from school. (Guardians’ work schedules and activities)  4. Students and guardians may not like the longer bus rides that may come from rerouting buses. (To much time spent on busses) LAKOTALAKOTA

Solving Oppositions  1. Walking or riding a bike to school would help Lakota save money by eliminating buses. Riding bikes and walking would make Lakota more eco friendly.  2. Redistricting students would save money on buses by eliminating buses and making shorter routes. Also this would make Lakota more environmentally friendly and could save time.  3. Carpooling with neighbors and switching off driving days to meet peoples schedules. This would help Lakota’s busing routes and the environment by buses having to pick up less students.  4. Having more people on a buss eliminates buses and is a better use of the bus’ route. Also this could make Lakota more eco friendly. LAKOTALAKOTA

 One way to measure the effectiveness of our plan is to take surveys from the teachers, students, and parents involved in our plan.  SHORT-TERM GOALS: a) Re-route buses b) Reduce buses c) Redistrict  LONG-TERM GOALS: a) Reduce Lakota’s deficit b) Make Lakota more “eco-friendly”  FUN FACTS: a) 1 bus can hold 48 adults b) It takes $70,000 to run 1 bus (this is the same cost to hire one teacher) LAKOTALAKOTA Action Plan (To be continued…)

 OUR PLAN: 1. Paint walkways in neighborhoods within 1 mile of the school 2. Recruit volunteers to monitor walkways 3. Make announcements to students and parents 4. Slowly remove buses 5. After 2 months, give a survey to teachers, students, and guardians to see if they like or dislike our plan 6. Map out routes that would be the shortest and most effective 7. Give bus drivers the new routes 8. Ask bus drivers to time their current routes 9. Change bus routes 10. Ask bus drivers to time their new routes 11. Map out ranges for each school 12. Estimate each schools new student population and add or subtract students from schools that have too much or not enough 13. Release redistricting plan 14. Make a website that will tell the students and guardians what school they will be attending 15. Redistrict students LAKOTALAKOTA Action Plan (…continued)

Pros and Cons  Pros a) Saves money b) Makes Lakota more “eco- friendly” c) Helps children stay healthy (with more students walking, it would keep more children healthy) d) It will not effect the students education or learning abilities  Cons a) Parents/Guardians might get upset that their children are walking to school or having to attend another school b) Costs money at first, but saves money later LAKOTALAKOTA
