LEADAlabama (LA) will become the new educational leader evaluation formative program for LEA use effective August 1, 2012. LA will replace the existing PEPE program for school leaders. School system superintendents will be evaluated by the local school board. LA implementation is for all administrative, certificated leaders currently evaluated by PEPE such as central office personnel, principals, assistant principals and specialty building-level administrators such as instructional, improvement and program specialists.

The LEADAlabama Development Committees recommendations for development were used to guide the develop process of the formative evaluation system. A main concern of the development committee: LA and the assessments conducted during the LA process must be contextualized to specific situations, and the primary focus of LA needs to be individual growth.

360 ° Assessment for School Principals Vanderbilt Assessment of Leadership in Education (VAL-ED), a multi-rater, evidence-based, approach to measure the effectiveness of principal behaviors known to influence teacher performance and student learning
31
360° is an excellent diagnostic and development tool for educational leadership in public schools and school districts. Not only do those who are new to educational leadership develop a more comprehensive and accurate self-image, the school leadership framework helps develop a much deeper understanding of the commitments of leadership. (National Center for School Leadership) VAL-ED 360° Feedback
32
VAL-ED is a 360° Feedback Tool: Taken by the principal, the principals supervisor, and all teachers Provides the best feedback to principles Incorporates inputs from the schools entire professional community All respondents assess the same facets of principal leadership VAL-ED reports allow principals to compare their ratings against the ratings given by teachers and supervisors Allows the principal to get informative feedback on his/her areas of excellence and areas with need for improvement VAL-ED 360° Feedback
