Word Roots (WR) Usually derived form Greek or Latin
Frequently indicates a body part Most medical terms have one or more word roots Gives basic meaning of term

a procedure ( -ectomy = surgical removal of) append/ectomy a condition ( -osis = abnormal condition of) dermat/osis a disease ( -itis = inflammation of) tonsill/itis
