Definitions…. Seam: –The line where two or more plies of a textile material are attached

Seam Types… There are six basic types of seams according to ASTM standards. –SS Super-impose(55) –LSLapped Seam(10) –BSBound Seam(18) –FSFlat Seam(6) –OSOrnamental Seams(8) –EFEdge Finishing(32)

SS (Super-Impose) Some common uses are –Side seam of skirt and shirts –Inseam of jeans –Collars and cuffs –Double waistband

LS (Lapped Seam) Some common uses are –Side seam of shirts –Out-seam of jeans –Attaching yokes

BS (Bound Seam) Some common uses are –T-shirt necklines –T-shirt Sleeves

FS (Flat Seam) Some common uses are –Sweat shirts –Under wear

EF (Edge Finishing) Some common uses are –Single fold hem –Double fold hem –Trouser hem –Shirt hem

OS (Ornamental Stitches) Some common uses are –Decorative stitching on jean pocket

Sewing machine Needles… Needle is a part of sewing machine that passes the sewing thread across the material for stitch formation. Without needle, sewing machine is useless
