Hacienda Suenos

As tradition and modern living are changing, so is architecture. This Hacienda, to be constructed on the Pacific Coast of Central Mexico, combines local traditional thick masonry construction with ultramodern building technology. It is creating a fusion that allows for both to co-exist in harmony and to blend into the environment. The layout is distinguished by multiple changes in levels within the house, responding to the natural environment. A central courtyard and spaces defined through voids are creating an open und blurry plan that does not clearly define the line between exterior and inferior. There are few doors and everything remains open as to invite nature into the hacienda and making it a part of it. The focal point of the hacienda, the sunroom, is a self-supporting glass dome with panels held in place by castings over a stainless steel skeleton, braking through the walls of the building and leaving them exposed. It is in part sunken into the ground, creating the illusion of being “smashed” into the structure to find its location thereby altering the traditional methods of construction finishes. This sphere is the ultimate transition between inside and outside. It represents the sun as it is captured and reflected within our own world, our backyard. The composition is creating a one-ness that is merging nature, tradition, and the new forming an identity that is keeping the values of the past while adopting and defining a new era that is incorporating and respecting the earth we live on.
