Course Description This course aims at teaching students reading comprehension at the intermediate to upper- intermediate level by engaging them in activities including text type analysis and improving their key reading and vocabulary skills. At the end of the course the students will be able to handle a wide range of text types confidently.

Teaching Methods The students are required to prepare for the class by doing reading assignments at home. They will discuss their texts in pairs, small groups and with the entire class. Classroom time should primarily be spent on speaking activities.

Course Evaluation Active participation (meaning the students take part in the discussions) 30%, midterm exam 30%, final exam 40%

Attendance If students need to miss classes for a valid reason, they must inform the instructor in advance by email or text message. They are required to make up the missed classes by extra homework. Missing more than one third of the course constitutes mandatory failure.

Week 9 Midterm exam You will be given a short text on a topic that was studied in class. Answer the comprehension questions. Dictionaries are allowed.
