21. 21 Fad or Future? Considerable disagreement about how successful e-books are going to be. Expectation that growth area will be in text books –end of ‘textbook shoulder’ –relevant sections only –electronic texts for ‘reference’ rather than ‘immersion’ reading?

22. 22 The E-book Challenge How are libraries going to integrate e- books into their services? How will e-books change library services? How will they change user expectations?

30. 30 Implications Possible reconsideration of collection development policies –just because we can give our users any book they want - should we? User expectations may change radically –is a six week wait for an inter library loan going to be acceptable? Libraries may start competing for users –the online user may choose the best service, not the nearest one.

31. 31 Conclusions E-books are here to stay E-books will provide libraries with many new challenges which will be difficult to manage in the short term It could well be the end of the library world as we know it…... … …but I feel fine.
