20. Appalachian 1. Settlers began to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. 2. Pontiac’s Rebellion- Chief Pontiac of the Ottawa joined with Miami, Huron, Shawnee, and Delaware against the British – tried to drive out settlers and give up European practices. Rebellion failed, Pontiac surrendered but remained an important leader.

As a result of Pontiac’s rebellion, the British government passed the Proclamation of 1763 which banned any further settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains creating a line between colonial and Indian lands. a.
