What is this heart Jeremiah 17:9-10

Jeremiah 17:9 ESV “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” NIV “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” NLT “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?”

Jeremiah 17:9 “I the LORD search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”

#1 To have a heart after God’s heart, we must be converted

Psalm 51:5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. David was not by nature a man after God’s heart.

Psalm 32:1-2 Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. David was not made right before God by his good deeds.

Psalm 78:70-72 He chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds; from following the nursing ewes he brought him to shepherd Jacob his people, Israel his inheritance. With upright heart he shepherded them and guided them with his skillful hand.

1 Samuel 10:9-10 When he turned his back to leave Samuel, God gave him another heart. And all these signs came to pass that day. When they came to Gibeah, behold, a group of prophets met him, and the Spirit of God rushed upon him, and he (Saul) prophesied among them.

#1 To have a heart after God’s heart, we must be converted

#2 To have a heart after God’s heart, we must be Spirit-filled

1 Samuel 16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

Romans 8:9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.

To be a man or woman after God’s heart, we must be truly converted and we must walk in dependence on the Holy Spirit

#3 To have a heart after God’s heart, we must spend time alone with God

Learn to read Learn to pray Learn to worship

#4 To have a heart after God’s heart, we must be obedient in small things

Psalm 78:70-72 He chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds; from following the nursing ewes he brought him to shepherd Jacob his people, Israel his inheritance. With upright heart he shepherded them and guided them with his skillful hand.

Try it this week In your devotions write a Psalm or Proverb

Psalm of Trust When the Lord saved my life, I was a man given new breath. My strength was returned to me, And my mind was clear kept. Come to the Lord all those who are weak Come to the Lord, if you are done.

Psalm of Trust You will find rest, if you trust in His Son. Restore our lives, Lord, like the dead coming to life. Those who are lost will now be guided by light. I long for the days when my family will come, I will be an ambassador for Christ, from now on.

Proverb Better to carry cash in your pocket, than to carry none and use plastic. Better to pay with cash and feel the sting of a purchase, than to use a card and simply be rubbed by the dull pass of unaccountable spending.
