2 History of Pepsi A north Carolina pharmacist, Caleb Bradham renamed “Brad’s Drink,”which he created and served to his customers, Pepsi-Cola in August of 1898 1900’s Bradham applies to the U.S. Patent Office for a trademark Advertises Pepsi-Cola as, “Exhilarating, invigorating, aids digestion.” There are 15 U.S. Pepsi bottling plants First Pepsi celebrity endorser, Barney Oldfield, appears in newspaper ads describing Pepsi as “A bully drink…refreshing, invigorating, a fine bracer for a race.” With a theme, “Delicious and healthful.” 1920’s-1930’s Pepsi Company declares bankrupt, Sold to Craven Holding Corp. Megargel, a Wall Street brokers buys the Pepsi trademark, forming the Pepsi-Cola Corporation Pepsi begins selling a 12 ounce bottle for five cents, same price that other consumers are charging for a 6 ounce bottle A newspaper cartoon strip, “Pepsi & Pete,” introduces the theme “Twice as much for a nickel” to increase consumer awareness

First advertising jingle-”Pepsi-Cola hits the spot/Twelve full ounces that’s a lot/Twice as much for a nickel,/too Pepsi-Cola is the drink for you.” Nickel, Nickel” (was translated into 55 languages) With WWII demanding sugar to be rationed, CEO Walter Mack purchases sugar plant in Cuba Alfred Steele is president of Pepsi, new slogan, “More bounce to the ounce.” 149 bottling plants operate in 61 countries outside the U.S. 1960’s-1970’s Pepsi targets younger generation, “Think Young” Diet Pepsi is introduced 1965-Frito-Lay and Pepsi merge, forming PepsiCo Mountain Dew launches first campaign, “Ya-Hoo Mountain Dew…It’ll tickle your innards.” Pepsi receives its seventh logo:

“New Generation“ pop music icons used to promote Pepsi Wild Cherry Pepsi is introduced Ray Charles teams up with Uh-Huh Girls, “You Got The Right One Baby, Uh-Huh.” is created 1998-A new look is created. “Globe” for Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Caffeine Free Pepsi and Diet Pepsi : 2000-Present Pepsi introduces Pespsi Twist and Diet Pepsi Twist Becomes the official sponsor of National Football League Pepsi updates its image with a bolder, more contemporary look:
