6. Language Arts Reading : The emphasis will be on analyzing more complex texts. We will be looking at the author’s choices and how those choices affect the meaning of a text. - Children will practice comprehension skills using both their independent reading books and whole class texts. - Children will be required to read one hour a day- 30 minutes in school and 30 minutes at home. Home reading steps will be graded weekly. - In addition, students will be graded on a combination of in-class activities, quizzes and tests.

7. Language Arts English : The emphasis will be on writing informational, narrative and persuasive texts. - Children will focus on organization and clarity of their writing, paragraph structure, grammar, punctuation, spelling and word choice. - Vocabulary instruction is imbedded in the reading, but will also include a study of Greek and Latin roots, prefixes and suffixes. - There will be a long-term research project in the fall.

9. Science Policies Students will be completing group and individual projects throughout each unit. Homework will include a Brain Check for each lesson, this will be assigned at the start of a lesson and will be due at the end of the lesson. Throughout the year, students will complete basic research at home. Test and quizzes will be given throughout each chapter and unit. (These will be announced in advance). Students will conduct individual and group experiments throughout each unit. Students will be required to keep a science/health journal. This journal will be collected 2 to 3 times for a grade throughout each quarter.

11. Religion This year we will be covering the following material: Scripture, The Ten Commandments, The Beatitudes, Sacraments & Liturgy, Prayer, Mary & the Saints, and Christ’s Mission. Liturgy will be every Wednesday at 8:05. Our religion class will be visiting the Shrine and Chapel throughout the school year.

12. Religion  Students will have religion quizzes weekly or biweekly. Unit tests are every 4- chapters.  Students can study for religion quizzes and unit tests by using the website, Christ our Life. Please check Miss Zenobi’s teacher page for the link.  Students will also have a prayer journal, which will be collected and graded at the end of each quarter.

16. Homework/Assignment Policy Why – Integral to a student’s learning When – Assigned Monday - Thursday Student’s Responsibility – Give it their best effort – Neat – On-time Parent’s Responsibility – Please make it a priority – Provide quiet work environment and necessary supplies

17. Homework/Assignment Policy (cont’d) If an assignment is late: – One day late = 1 point deduction, must be finished at home – Two days late = Will receive zero credit, must finish in indoor recess – Three zeros on missing assignments will result in a lunch detention. – If a student has excessive missing assignments, a parent conference will be scheduled.

Classroom Rules & Discipline Classroom Rules: – Be Responsible – Be Considerate Discipline – Verbal Warning – “Think Sheet” (lose conduct point) – Communication with Parent – Conduct Referral (3 Conduct Referrals = Detention) Detentions are served on Thursday 2:30-3:30pm Three dress code violations = Detention

19. Classroom Rules & Discipline Students begin each day with 2 Conduct Points. Students may lose points for not following classroom rules and/or harmful behavior. Students may earn extra points for positive classroom behavior. If students lose 2 points for the day, it will result in a conduct referral Students earn points per quarter to “shop” in our classroom store.

24. Lockers PTU provides a locker shelf All books, supplies, and workbooks are to be kept in the lockers. Lockers MUST be kept neat - no loose papers, debris, etc. Lunches/snacks, coats, and backpacks will be kept in the classroom. The teachers helped students set up their lockers during the 1 st week of school.

25. Technology  Students must bring their charged Chromebook to school each day. Students must bring their Chromebook home each night to charge. This is part of their daily homework.  Students who choose to bring technology to school are responsible for keeping the device turned off and in their backpack at all times.  In compliance with the school rule on technology,  If the device is found to be on, the teacher will keep the tech in their desk, off, until the end of the day.  If it happens a second time, the device will be sent to the office and a parent will have to claim it.
