ASTURIES Asturies is very linked to Europe’s history. The region was first a Celtic country, later roman and gothic, and in the Arabic invasion was the first Christian kingdom. After the approval of the Spanish Constitution in 1978, Asturies has become one of the 17 Autonomous Communities of Spain. The asturian economy has received many funds from the European budget, specially for infrastructures in harbours, airport, motorways and high speed railways.
