Satellites: Natural or artificial bodies that revolve around larger bodies. The natural ones are commonly called “moons”.

Mercury and Venus Are the only planets that do not have moons

Earth’s Moon: Also called “Luna” 1. age: 4.6 Billion Years 2. atmosphere: none 3. size: about 1/6 the size of Earth 4. rotates on axis: once every 27 days 5. revolves around Earth: once every 27 days.

Moon Phases: A. Caused by the changing positions of the Earth, moon, and Sun.

Moon Phases: 1. Waxing: the bright part of the moon is increasing in size. 2. Waning: the bright part of the moon is decreasing in size.

Moon Phases: 3. Crescent moon: the bright part of the moon appears less than a quarter. 4. Quarter moon: the bright part of the moon is half visible 5. New moon: the side of the moon facing the Earth is completely covered with a shadow of the Earth.

Moon Phases: 6. Full moon: The side of the moon facing the Earth is completely lit by the Sun. 7. Gibbous moon: The bright part of the moon appears to be more than a quarter.
