July 2008STAR Management System30 Frequently Asked Questions 1.Do I need to set up a separate administration for each school? Ans: No. If schools have similar calendars and the district intends to test all students during the same testing window, and the selected window adheres to the 21 day, 85% test window rules for all schools, there is no need to set up multiple testing administrations. 2.I accidentally set up multiple test administrations with the same window; how can I remove one? Ans: Call STAR TAC and request them to delete any unnecessary administrations. 3.Do I need to set up a separate administration to accommodate my students in a nonpublic, nonsectarian school (NPS)? Ans: Maybe. If the NPS has a calendar that generates test days in line with the district’s schools, a separate administration is not necessary. However, if the NPS has a different calendar, a separate administration may be set up to accommodate the different schedule.
31
July 2008STAR Management System31 Frequently Asked Questions (continued) 4.What is the difference between the “Available Test Window” and the “Test Window”? Ans: The “Available Test Window” is the full 21-day window calculated as 10 instructional days before and after the date on which 85% of the instructional days have been completed. The actual “Test Window” is a period selected by the district within the 21-day window when the district will actually administer the tests. 5.When can I complete make-up testing for students who missed the test date? Ans: All testing, regular and make-up, must be completed within the test window selected by the district. Make-up testing may begin anytime after the first day of testing. 6.Can a district select all 21 days of their “Available Test Window” as their actual “Test Window”? Ans: Yes, The district may use the entire 21-day testing window if necessary.
32
July 2008STAR Management System32 7.Why do I have to enter a “Non-Instructional Days” calendar and a “Nondelivery/Nonworking Days” Calendar? Ans: The “Non-Instructional Days” calendar is used to calculate the 21-day “Available Test Window.” The “Nondelivery/Nonworking Days” calendar is related to the days when the primary shipping address is open for deliveries. This calendar is used to calculate delivery dates and avoid delivery during district office/warehouse closures. 8.Do I need to set up a different test window to administer the Standards-based Tests in Spanish (STS)? Ans: No. The STS administered in grades 2–11 will be administered within the same testing window as the CSTs, CMA (for grades 3–8), and CAPA. 9.Do I need to set up a different test window to administer the grade 11 Early Assessment Program Essay? Ans: No. The STAR Management System will automatically set up a separate Writing Administration, EP01, if the district indicates that it would like to order EAP Essay materials. Frequently Asked Questions (continued)
33
July 2008STAR Management System33 10.When setting up my test administration I selected a Pre-ID type of “Labels” but I really want Pre-ID answer documents. Can I change this? Ans: Yes, as long as you change it before approving the test book order for the administration. Use the “EDIT – Test administration” option from the left navigation bar. Be aware that changing the Pre-ID type will recalculate the Pre-ID cutoff date associated with the administration. Be sure to print and distribute a new Test Administration Summary after making changes. 11.I chose a Pre-ID type of “None” or “Answer Documents.” Can I still get “Supplemental/Late Pre-ID labels”? Ans: If you do not intend to Pre-ID at the regular time and selected a Pre- ID type of “None” but still want “Supplemental/Late Pre-ID Labels,” change the Pre-ID type to “Labels.” If you select a Pre-ID type of “Labels” or “Answer Documents,” you can submit data after the Pre-ID cutoff date to receive “Supplemental/Late Pre-ID Labels” for which there is an additional charge Frequently Asked Questions (continued)
