2. Out of My Mind The Plot--  Out Of My Mind, is a book about a girl named, Melody.  She has disabilities, she can’t talk, she can’t walk, her eyes look’s like she’s sleeping, and she can only use the muscle in her right arm  At school, Melody has to go to a classroom called, H-5. It’s where kids with a disability, or for somebody has special needs.

3. What Kids In The H-5 Classroom Do  The whole classroom, every winter, put’s a snowman up. That snowman is called, Sydney.  Everybody in the class hates Sydney the snowman, besides one person, Maria. Maria LOVES Sydney. When they have to put her away, she starts BALLING her eyes out.  Willy always hang’s out in his wheel chair, like it’s a NASCAR car. Once in a great while, he’ll pretends to put on his “helmet,” then he says, “vroom, vroom”  Then he drives in his electronic wheel chair, and put’s his gear mode, to rabbit, and rides across the room.  Carl sticks pencils into the snowman. He HATES that thing. When ever that snowman comes out, he races to it, and try’s to stick as many pencils as he can…  Ashley puts headphones on, goes to the back/right of the classroom, and listens to music all day long.  Willy NEVER EVER talks, but what he does do, is shake his arms, and legs, back and forth, and he just can’t stop  Willy knows everything about baseball. Once in a while, Mrs. Hyatt shouts out a question about baseball, For example, “Who was the first baseball player to ever hit sixty home runs in one season?” Then He would say “BABE RUTH!!!”  Last but not least… Melody sits there just watching everybody do what they do, what Maria does, what Willy does, What Carl does, and what Ashely does.

4. Exploration  My Exploration is a letter to the author: I emailed the following letter to Ms. Draper: Dear Sharon M. Draper, My name is Ryan Burdick and I am a 5 th grader at Birmingham Covington School in Birmingham Michigan. I am currently reading your book: “Out of my Mind.” I REALLY like this book! I just have a few questions for you: 1. Why did you write this book? Was there someone in your life who had disabilities? 2. If so, was the disability the same as Melody in your book? I think more authors should write about people with disabilities so others can better understand what people go through when they are not “seen” like everyone else. 5. Out of My Mind – Info.  I am currently on page 39.  There are 295 pages in this book.  I am currently reading this book in our “Guys Read” Book Club  I would rate this book a 9 out of 10.  It’s pretty interesting but can get a little boring at times.
