2 Starter: “The big picture” Why have attitudes to smoking changed?

5 Tar Nicotine Carbon Monoxide Highly addictive drug that acts directly on the brain. Black sticky substance that clogs the lungs and makes bronchitis more likely. Is a carcinogen. Joins to haemoglobin better than oxygen meaning RBCs can’t carry as much.

13 Long term effects Brain damage: alters the brain chemistry. Can lead to mental health issues and forgetfulness. Cirrhosis of the liver: Enzymes in the liver remove the alcohol, but this produces a toxic by-product.
