Science Tidbits Throughout the year we explore Physical, Earth, and Life science. Each unit also incorporates the nature of science. A wealth of information is shared in each class which enhances the student’s understanding of science vocabulary and concepts. Knowledge of science vocabulary is extremely important in building student’s comprehension of science topics. Basic math and reading skills assist students in understanding and applying science concepts.

It is encouraged that students read at least 15 minutes each evening. This can be through their library books, newspapers, magazines, maybe even a book you might enjoy together. Homework may not be assigned every night, when it is, it’s imperative students have time at home to complete it and bring the assignment to school on the due date. Being able to make connections to our reading is an important skill for us this year. Building up our vocabulary and using events and situations in the students everyday life helps these connections happen more fluidly. The following websites can help with reading comprehension: www.brainpop.com www.funbrain.com www.wartgames.com

5 th Grade MATH TIDBITS * Students have the daily assignment of practicing their math facts. This includes multiplication and division. * It is important that students have a solid foundation of their basic math skills: addition and subtraction with regrouping, multiplication (two-digit by two-digit and three-digit by two-digit) and long division problems. These are other things that can be worked on at home daily. * 5 th grade math deals a lot with word problems. Learning math vocabulary is important and reading/ sorting through a word problem to solve for the question is a crucial aspect of math this year. * There are several websites that can be helpful to the students throughout the school year as we continue to learn the objectives. www.aaamath.com www.coolmath4kids.com www.funbrain.com www.aplusmath.com
