3 4.0 – Be Able to Plan E-Commerce Strategies
Starter Activity: Working with a partner; produce a list of questions you would want to ask and have answered when creating an e-commerce site. Think about: What will it do? How will it work? Whom is it for? How much will it cost?

Know the technologies required for an e-commerce system Understand the impact of e-commerce on organisations Understand the effects of e-commerce on society Be able to plan e-commerce strategies.

5 4.2 – Structure of an E-Commerce Site
There are 3 main points to consider when looking at how to structure a website: Customer Interface – this is the 1st point of contact the User will have with the online business. If customers cannot use it easily, they will shop elsewhere. A web designer must consider whom the customers are? Very often ‘cookies’ are used to help make the Users experience more personal.

6 4.2 – Structure of an E-Commerce Site
Image – designers need to take care with the business’s image, name and brand reputation. This is especially important now due to the increase in vocal community tweeters, bloggers and social media users that may make comments about the business. Style – an e-commerce site is an extension of the business. So designs, logos, colour schemes and fonts are important for appearance and recognition by customers.

12 4.3 – Hosting of an E-Commerce Site
There are 2 main points to consider when looking at how to host a website: Who Will host? – this can be done in-house using staff employed by the business to design and operate the website. OR to use a subcontractor that is paid by the business to do this instead. Which ISP? - the business will then have to decide whether to change its ISP and internet connection it needs.
