Fluency Lesson 3 Lesson 3 5 cm On your boards, write a multiplication sentence to find the area. Did you write 5 cm x 2 cm = 10 square cm? 2 cm Write the formula for perimeter and solve. Did you write 2 x (5 cm + 2 cm) = 14 cm?
6
2 cm Fluency Lesson 3 Lesson 3 On your boards, write a multiplication sentence to find the area. Did you write 2 cm x 7 cm = 14 square cm? 7 cm Write the formula for perimeter and solve. Did you write 2 x (7 cm + 2 cm) = 18 cm?
7
Fluency Lesson 3 Lesson 3 4 cm On your boards, write a multiplication sentence to find the area. Did you write 4 cm x 7 cm = 28 square cm? 7 cm Write the formula for perimeter and solve. Did you write 2 x (7 cm + 4 cm) = 22 cm?
8
Lesson 3 Fluency Lesson 3 4 cm On your boards, write a multiplication sentence to find the area. Did you write 4 cm x 4 cm = 16 square cm? 4 cm Write the formula for perimeter and solve. Did you write 2 x (4 cm + 4 cm) = 16 cm?
9
Lesson 3 Fluency Lesson 3 6 cm On your boards, write a multiplication sentence to find the area. Did you write 6 cm x 6 cm = 36 square cm? 6 cm Write the formula for perimeter and solve. Did you write 2 x (6 cm + 6 cm) = 24 cm?
10
Fluency Lesson 3 A rectangle has a given area of 8 square cm, length of 2 cm, and width x. Lesson 3 Use the Read, Draw, Write strategy to find the width. Did you write 2 cm x 4 cm = 8 square cm 2 cm Area = 8 square cm Write the formula for perimeter and solve. x cm Did you write 2 x (2 cm + 4 cm) = 24 cm?
11
A rectangle has a given area of 15 square cm, length of 5 cm, and width x.
Fluency Lesson 3 Lesson 3 Use the Read, Draw, Write strategy to find the width. Did you write 3 cm x 5 cm = 15 square cm 5 cm Area = 15 square cm Write the formula for perimeter and solve. x cm Did you write 2 x (3 cm + 5 cm) = 16 cm?
12
A rectangle has a given area of 42 square cm, length of 6 cm, and width x.
Fluency Lesson 3 Lesson 3 Use the Read, Draw, Write strategy to find the width. Did you write 6 cm x 7 cm = 42 square cm 6 cm Area = 42 square cm Write the formula for perimeter and solve. X cm Did you write 2 x (7 cm + 6 cm) = 26 cm?

First you read! Then you draw! Finally, you write!
Can you draw something? What can you draw? What conclusions can you make from your drawing? RDW Review Lesson 3 First you read! Then you draw! Can you draw something? What can you draw? What conclusions can you make from your drawing? Your drawing does not have to be art work! A simple diagram is very effective and helps you solve the problem. Finally, you write!

Can you draw something? What can you draw? The projection screen in the school auditorium is 5 times as long and 5 times as wide as the screen in the library. The screen in the library is 4 feet long with a perimeter of 14 feet. What is the perimeter of the screen in the auditorium? Concept Development Problem 1 Lesson 3 Problem 1 The projection screen in the school auditorium is 5 times as long and 5 times as wide as the screen in the library. The screen in the library is 4 feet long with a perimeter of 14 feet. What is the perimeter of the screen in the auditorium? What simplifying strategies did you use to multiply to find the perimeter?

The length is twice the width. David’s rectangular air mattress measures 3 feet by 6 feet. If David puts the air mattress in the tent, how many square feet of floor space will be available for the rest of his things? Can David fit another air mattress of the same size in his tent?

Lesson 3 Problem 3 Concept Development Problem 3 Jackson’s bedroom has an area of 90 square feet. The area of his bedroom is 9 times that of his closet. If the closet is 2 feet wide, what is its length? How was solving for Problem 3 different from other problems we have solved using multiplicative comparison??

Concept Development Problem 4 Lesson 3 Problem 4 The length of a rectangular deck is 4 times its width. If the deck’s perimeter is 30 feet, what is the deck’s area? When do we use twice as much, 2 times as many, or 3 times as many? When have you heard that language being used? Explain how you used the figure you drew for Problem 4 to find a solution.
