4 Composite Shapes A figure (or shape) that can be divided into 2 or more shapes. A figure (or shape) that is made up of 2 or more shapes If a figure is made from two or more geometric figures, then it is called a Composite Figure.

6 The story of the day One day Mariama went to visit her friend Sally. Sally had a sister who was doing her maths homework and came and asked sally and Mariama to help her with her homework. She was studying area of composite shapes and did not know the meaning of the word composite. So Mariama asked Sally’s sister to come with her to her Maths class and learn about composite shapes.

7 What does the word composite reminds me of? Where can I find composite shapes at school? Making connections with the real world.

8 Classify the following:

9 Task Divide students into groups of 2. Each group chooses a letter and go the area that is written behind the chosen letter. Each area has a composite shape. Each area has a different question for you to answer. Students have to go their area and take the measurements of the composite shape and calculate the area. The areas are as follow: 1- Canteen 2- Tennis court 3- Back of the library 4- Front of the library 6- Outside the science staffroom 7- Stay in the library (worksheet). Students come back and the next day each group teaches the class for 5 minutes and explain their problem and how they did the measurements.
