Background Discoveries of electron, proton and neutron & quantum mechanics promoted to investigate inside nucleus. (Beginning of nuclear particle physics) The idea of nuclear force, which used to be the strong force, was given as exchanging particles. (Meson exchange model)

Background (cont.) Accelerators made tons of particles. (Subatomic zoo, mesons, baryons, etc.) The existence of the internal structure of meson and baryon led to a more profound idea of elementary particles. (Quarks) A number of particles were classified and explained as models and theories. (Quark model, group theory, QCD, etc)
