WHAT IS A COMPUTER? Can be defined as an electronic device that performs rapid computations and generates desired output for users based on input data and programs.

DATA AND INFORMATION DATA – is a collection of unprocessed items, which include numbers, audio videos, text and images. INFORMATION – conveys meaning and is useful to people

PERSONAL COMPUTERS Is a computer that can perform all of its input, processing, output, and storage activities itself. 2 types of personal computers: desktop computers notebook computers

DESKTOP COMPUTER Is designed so that the system unit, input devices, output devices and any other devices fit entirely on under a desk or table. Ex: gaming desktop, home theatre PC (HTPC)

MOBILE COMPUTERS AND MOBILE DEVICES
Mobile computer – personal computer you can carry from place to place Mobile device – similar to Mobile computer but it is small enough to hold in your hand. notebook computer

NOTEBOOK COMPUTER Also called as Laptop computer, a portable, personal computer often designed to fit on your lap. types of notebook netbook ultra-thin

TABLET PC’s Special type of notebook computer that you can interact with by touching the screen with your finger or a digital pen. (uses pressure rather than ink) it also uses voice input so that users can speak to a computer. Convertible tablet has attached keyboard. State tablet provides other means for typing.

MOBILE DEVICES Small enough to carry in a pocket usually do not have hard drives instead using of special memory to store programs and other some use small storage such as memory cards. Popular types: smart phones and PDA’s, e- book readers, handheld computers, portable media players and digital cameras

SMART PHONES AND PDAs Smart phone – internet enabled phone, provides information, calendars appointment book, address book, calculator, notepad, send and receive . Also provides portable media player, built-in digital cameras, cable of using word processing, spreadsheet, and games.

SMART PHONES AND PDAs PDA – (Personal digital assistance) differs from smart phone in that is usually does not have phone capabilities and may not be internet-enabled, support voice input, built-in camera, function as portable media player.
