Value Drawing Light and Shadow Part I Chiaroscuro- an Italian renaissance term for values. “Chiaro” means Light and “Oscuro” means shadow or darkness.

Val Value is the amount of light that we observe reflecting to our eye from an object at any point. Some areas reflect more light and others are obscured or blocked from the light.

Practice Create a, flat, 10value tonal bar using pressure stroke. (No smudge & no visible marks.) Create 4 graded tonal bars using 3 other (different) tool marks. Blended, Cross-hatch, Broad-stroke and your own custom one. Draw 2 simple forms with full values using pressure stroke and one other tool mark above. Label the 5 general values on your drawings.
