The Ordinary World Dorothy is a girl who lives in Kansas with her aunt and uncle. She doesn’t feel like she belongs there and is often bored due to the fact that most of the other residents are older than her. She desires to be in a place where she is understood. She relies on her dog Toto for company and friendship. The Wizard of Oz

Call to Adventure Miss Gulch convinces Dorothy’s aunt and uncle to take Toto away for his mischievous behavior. Dorothy is upset, runs away, and is swept up by a tornado. The house which she is in lands in Oz, crushes the Wicked Witch of the East, and begins her adventure. Entering the Unknown The land of Oz is completely different from Dorothy's farm, which fills her with joy and curiosity. She is feeling excitement about entering is new world. She sees different people like the Munchkins and unusual places like the city of OZ Assistance / Meeting a Mentor Her mentor in the story, Glinda, arrives and tells Dorothy all about Munchkin Land and how, in order to go back home, she has to see the wizard to get help. Glinda relaxes her by saying the slippers have powers that will make her arrive home safe. Glinda also tells Dorothy to simply "follow the yellow brick road.”

l Allies and Helpers Along her Journey to Oz and then the witch’s castle, Dorothy meets the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. Together they support and help each other to overcome obstacles that they are presented with. The Road of Trials Dorothy must travel to Oz to seek the help of the wizard. Along the way she is tormented by the with and eventually gets to the witch's castle, but only because the witch ordered her monkeys to do so. She's trapped in danger of dying. The witch shows her a glimpse of her aunt worrying about her, making Dorothy regret leaving. The Supreme Ordeal Dorothy's crisis is getting trapped in the room in the castle of the Wicked Witch. The witch sets an hour glass, and once time runs out, Dorothy's life is over. Thankfully, Dorothy's friends save her just in the nick of time and they end up throwing water on the Wicked Witch, causing her to melt.

The Magic Flight Glinda explains to Dorothy that she was always able to return home. All she had to do was tap her heels together and say, “There’s no place like home.” This teaches Dorothy that she should have cherished her home life instead of disliking it. Confronting the Father Once she opens her eyes, she tells everyone right away how much she loves them. Not even all the gold and glitter from the world would convince her to leave her town and family now. Restoring the World Dorothy returns to her regular, normal life in Kansas. This time, she has a new appreciation for family and home life.
