3. 6.1 Sundiata Makes Mali an empire recap (just listen)  A man named Sundiata makes an army and wins his countries’ independence.  Sundiata made Mali a prosperous empire  To keep order took power away from local leaders  The local leaders had born the name Mansa  Mansa’s had political and religious roles  Died in 1255  Mansa Musa became ruler later

4. Who was he? (Take notes on different colored bullets)  Mansa Musa was Mali’s most famous ruler  Muslim king  Ruled for 25 years  He was a very religious person  Strong believer in education  Wanted Muslims to be able to read the Qur’an

(Take notes on colored bullets)  Mali reached its height in wealth, fame, and power  Mali became known throughout Africa, Asia, and Europe  Sent scholars to Morocco to study  Gave away lots of gold  Built schools for studying the Qur’an  Made sure that Muslims could read and write
