Assignment 3 Hull structure Ran Xiao, 467643 Tomas Their, 224051 10.10.2014Kul-24.4110
2
Things to consider Strength of the structure Compatibility of the structure and GA Demands on production Brackets and openings Classification standards Drawings 10.10.2014Kul-24.4110
3
Strength of the structure Calculated in Conceptual Design Are the results reliable Is there a proper way to do calculations for wooden ships? What about catamarans? If new methods are found: compare to previous results Find people who know more about the subject 10.10.2014Kul-24.4110
4
Compatibility with GA Will only concern the machinery in the hull Room for everything without making areas too heavy, e.g. at batteries? Is there room for enough watertight bulkheads? If not, can the machinery be moved? Will this affect the strength considerably? 10.10.2014Kul-24.4110
5
Demands on production Considered in Shipyard engineering The machinery will be bought from a subcontractor Most work on the wooden frame Connecting all the machinery Wiring the batteries What needs to be checked during production? Good joints? Avoid bending of the wood? Etc. 10.10.2014Kul-24.4110
6
Brackets and openings Simple construction No water, heating or A/C in the hull Hydrogen pipes, cooling system and wiring Where should the openings be for an effective design? Access hatches from the passenger area How will large cable bundles (especially from the batteries) affect e.g. watertight bulkheads? 10.10.2014Kul-24.4110
7
Classification standards Are there classification standards for wooden catamaran ferries? If not, what standards can be used? Standards for wooden ships Standards for catamarans This area will probably be unclear, at this point we need to make our own decisions on what actually fulfills all standards 10.10.2014Kul-24.4110
8
Drawings From CAD course CAD model of the ship, but with assumed steel structure Can’t be used here Enough time to make a new model with our wooden structure? Probably not The simple design means that new, separate drawings might be the easiest solution 10.10.2014Kul-24.4110
9
Work plan and problems Strength calculations most important Find proper standards, if available GA compatibility, production, openings, etc. should be quick Solution for the needed drawings Work plan: One person concentrates on the strength calculations The other takes care of the rest 10.10.2014Kul-24.4110
10
Final work plan and expectations Ran Strength calculation (check old ones, make new if needed), drawings A lot of calculations Tomas GA compatibility, production, openings, standards, drawings Lots of writing, searching for sources (Initial plan, we will help each other at the end anyway) The strength calculations can be a problem, especially knowing if results are correct. The rest should mostly be checking previous work Personal deadlines: 17.10 Gives time for compiling and checking problems 10.10.2014Kul-24.4110
