Here’s your first homework Section Assignment: (use this format in all your assignments) Wrong = Missing = Name and assignment Problem group description Original problem Checked answer Work steps Your score

Your Homework Checklist On the first page of each homework section: Put your Name & Assignment in the right top corner of first page Plan two columns on each page and use both sides of each sheet When you start a new group of problems, Copy the line of Problem Group Directions For each problem: Write problem number and the original problem (word problems: summarize briefly) Write down intermediate work steps – most problems will have them Write down all computations and your answer clearly Leave an empty space between problems Suggested - Every 5 problems: Check these 5 answers in the back of the textbook Correct any Wrong answers (if you can ) by fixing the work steps If you don’t completely correct a problem: Mark the Problem Number with a big X Circle only the correct answers. When you finish and have checked all answers in the textbook, determine the Scores: Count the number of Wrong problems and the number of Missing (not done) problems Your Scores are the number of Wrong problems, Examples : and the number of Missing problems Write the Scores at the top of the first page, just to the left of your name If more than one page was used for this section, Staple them together at top left When it’s time to Submit one of the 10 Homework Packages: Staple (top left) the 2 to 4 section assignments together, in order Pass in to me for Grading (0 to 5 points) based on percentage of problems done correctly (5 pts for ≥95%, 4 pts for ≥75%, 3 pts for ≥55%, 2 pts for ≥35%, 1 pt for ≥15%,) Wrong = 2 Missing = 4 Wrong = 1 Missing = 0 Wrong = 0 Missing = 0

Some Common Mistakes Mistakes with the first homework submissions: – Format wrong: Scores, Name & Assignment not in right corner of first page – Missing the Scores Wrong = Missing = – The Scores are not accurate or in the wrong format – Missing Problem Group Directions (like “Write in Expanded Form”) – Not writing down the original problem – Not circling the correct answers when it’s not obvious – EOO failure, got out of order and did some wrong problems (check every 20 probs) (this is ok occasionally; count them if correct) – Incomplete H/W: whole section missing, or too many problems missing – Messy, disorganized or cramped work – Failure to use the vertical approach, where appropriate – Did lots of problems not assigned (did odd rather than eoo?) – don’t erase, just cross them off Practices that may be considered Cheating (Inflating your Score) – Not checking answers in back of the book – Missing work steps, when appropriate – Answer is right, but does not match work (you and I will meet to discuss) – Inaccurate Scores – off by 5 or more – Not clearly identifying incorrect answers (if you left them wrong): Put a BIG X over the problem number of the incorrect or missing answer
