1 Martin Methodist College McGill First Year Experience Class Project Boys and Girls Club 2010 Home Run Derby

2 General Information Date: Friday, October 8 th or Oct. 22 nd, 2010 (rain date) Location: Magazine Road Park Event Type: Softball, Slow Pitch Time of Event: 12:00-4:00 PM (Qualifying) 5:00-7:00 PM (Main Event)

3 How the Competition would work 50-60 participants 10 swings, most home runs on each field make finals 10 finalists (Main event) Finalists won’t be announced until 5:30 pm

4 The McGill First Year Experience Class (Teams) Advertising /Marketing Team (T-Shirt Design, Brochures, PowerPoint, Logo) Event Coordination Team (Schedule for the Day, Speakers) Registrations Team (In charge of Registrations on and before event, Registration forms design) Budget/Treasury Team (Tracking Income and Expenses) Fundraising Team (Will focus on fundraising with Pat Ford) Freshman Pal (Will report to instructor on progress of each team) MMC Supplies (Bats) Catcher, Pitchers Martin SERVES (Student Volunteer Organization) Coordination & Student Participation Groups who are committed

5 What we need from the club: Support from the club “Child Participation” Concessions Singing the National Anthem Speakers “What the Boys and Girls Club has done for them.” Outfielders Posters Raising Awareness of Event Pass Out fliers Child Sign-up for Event (To each category above) Sponsor a child project Board Participation in any form Advertising Sponsorship Participation Proceeds options for the event…What do the kids need? Home Run Derby 2010

6 How funds will be raised Concession Sales Participation Fees (50-60) Sponsorships Recognition on MMC Website; Newspaper; Fence; Day of Event Golden Ball (If a home run is hit with one of the 10 designated balls, a company will donate x amount to the club.)

7 Why Participate? Raise money for the kids in the community Win a Great Prize such as: Titans Weekend! Win the Corporate Award, Corporation with most Home Runs in Qualifying! A massive trophy that can be passed on from year to year Home Run Derby Champion Title A Great T-shirt

8 Budget Plan Revenue 50 participants @ $50.00 = $2500 Business Sponsors 10 @ 100 = $1000 Child Sponsorships 20 X $20=$400 Golden Balls ($100 x 10) =$1000 Expenses T-Shirts 100 shirts @ $6.12= $612.50 @ $10.27 = $513.50 plus shipping and set-up = $1500.00 Braves Weekend or Prize: $350.00 Trophy: $150.00 General Supplies (Paper, Printing) $150.00 Softballs $250 Concessions $100 Bats: $100.00 Total funds raised Goal: $2000

9 Outcomes Increased awareness of the Programs at the B & GC MMC Student understanding of programs like the Boys and Girls Club Enhanced MMC Student Participation at the club Fundraising designated to benefit the children Community awareness of the FYE 101 Projects; of the club itself, and of the college’s mission as it relates to community service Teaching MMC students to use PowerPoint, Speaking Skills, Budget Skills, Teamwork and Involvement
