not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; (Romans 12:11)

Serving the Lord As regards the Lord—slaving! Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

What does it mean to have a servant mindset? We always remember that we are purchased by the blood of Christ. We constantly acknowledge His authority over us. Our energies are devoted to the advancement of His interests! The focus of our efforts is His approval!

Fervent in spirit As regards the spirit—boiling! For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from then on and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this. (Isaiah 9:6-7)

‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I would that you were cold or hot. ‘So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. (Revelation 3:15-16)

Not lagging behind in diligence As regards diligence—not slow! If the former phrase describes our heart, the second describes our “feet”. If God doesn’t want effort without passion, neither does He want passion without effort.

What do we do when our spiritual fire burns low? Get back into our Bible study and prayer life. Get focused on God again. Keep thinking about His love and passion for us. Recommit to doing God’s work and let the experience feed the passion! Look to the rewards of God for our efforts.

‘I know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot endure evil men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and you found them to be false; and you have perseverance and have endured for My name’s sake, and have not grown weary. ‘But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. (Revelation 2:2-4)
