HOW CAN I MAKE A CHANGE IN AMERICAN GOVERNMENT? UNIT 6

WHAT IS THIS NEWSPAPER ARTICLE FOCUSED ON?

WHAT IS THE MAIN DISAGREEMENT BETWEEN REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS?

WHICH POLITICAL PARTY WOULD MAKE THIS STATEMENT? WHY? It produced more research and treatment for AIDs, more childhood immunizations, more support for women’s health research, more affordable college loans for the middle class, a new national service program for those who want to give something back to their country and their communities for higher education, a dramatic increase in high tech investments to move us from a defense to a domestic high tech economy.

COMPARE EACH CANDIDATE’S RECORD AND QUALIFICATIONS. WHO WOULD YOU VOTE FOR? WHY?

HOW DOES THIS DIRECTLY INFLUENCE LEGISLATIVE DECISIONS?

COMPARE HOW PEOPLE RECEIVE THEIR NEWS. WRITE YOUR OBSERVATION.

PROPAGANDA: IDEAS USED TO INFLUENCE PEOPLE’S THINKING OR BEHAVIOR WHAT IS THE POSTER TRYING TO PERSUADE PEOPLE TO DO?

WHAT CONCLUSION CAN BE MADE ABOUT POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS?  A: It is unfair to force taxpayers to pay for opinions they do not support. Voters should be able to express their opinions by giving candidates as much money as they want.  B: Candidates would spend less time trying to raise money and spend more time talking about the issues. Some people can afford to give more money to candidates, which gives their opinion an unfair advantage.

WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING SHOULD BE LUIS’S FINAL STEP IN ATTEMPTING TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE?  Luis owns a small store in the downtown business district. He learned that at the next monthly council meeting, the mayor will propose limiting the amount of time that people can park on the streets in the business district. Luis is afraid that if the city council approves the proposal, his business will suffer.

WHEN LYNDON B. JOHNSON ISSUED THE EXECUTIVE ORDER FOR AFFIRMATIVE ACTION HOW DID IT AFFECT MINORITY GROUPS?

WHY WOULD PROVIDING BILINGUAL BALLOTS BENEFIT AREAS IN THE US WHERE THE HISPANIC POPULATION IS MORE THAN 5%?

WHAT DOES THIS RESULT SUGGEST ABOUT THE UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS OF TELEVISION AS A COMMUNICATIONS MEDIUM IN NATIONAL POLITICS?  The first televised presidential debate occurred in 1960. According to a nationwide poll afterward, those who watched the debate on television thought John F. Kennedy won, while those who listened to the debate on radio thought Richard M. Nixon was the winner.

WHY DOES THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION PROCESS BEGIN WITH CAUCUSES AND PRIMARIES?

WHY WOULD VOTERS SUPPORT THIRD PARTIES?
