1 Best Practices & Educational Resources Help transition from Grade Level Expectations to the Common Core Standards Organized our teachers’ resource library of professional books. Organized and became familiar with resources available in the book room. Sort through and evaluate websites, electronic resources, games and lessons plans to find the best practices for our teacher’s use. Help to share effective practices our classroom teachers are using with other teachers in the district. Study Island & Education City

Changes we have noticed since the beginning of the year: More consistent implementation of guided reading among grade levels. Teachers demonstrating more confidence with formative assessment. Regularly scheduled writing conferences with individual students. Goal setting and student self assessment. Teachers are beginning to understand our role in the buildings and requesting our assistance. Students taking responsibility for their own learning!

What the research says: This isn’t a new idea. Many districts are using coaches in classrooms to promote ongoing professional development and teaching consistently with fidelity. *Our PLC coach, Vicky Robb, shared that districts who want to effectively implement a balanced literacy program, need to have instructional coaches to guide classroom teachers and ensure it is being taught with fidelity.
