Glycerol (an alcohol) – 3 carbons each containing a hydroxyl group 2. Fatty acid – carboxyl group and a hydrocarbon chain with ~ 15 other carbon atoms Amino Acid – (building blocks for proteins) Carboxyl group and Amino Group Nucleic Acids (DNA, RNA) - phosphate group
