3 Administrative Experience 6 yrs- Director, Molecular and Cellular Biology Graduate Program o > 70 doctoral students, 12 PSM students o 6 core courses students team-taught by faculty from across campus o led yearly recruitment efforts including trips to conferences attended by minority students o Co-taught Scientific Skills and Ethics (MCB 557); Molecular and Cellular Techniques (MCB 525) o Co-PI, 3 funding proposals (NIH U24 Center proposal; NSF Multiuser Research grant for new multiphoton confocal) 1yr- Interim Director, Professional Science Masters program o > 30 non-thesis MS students o 6 core courses

5 COS Curriculum Goals: Increase laboratory experiences (esp. inquiry-based) for majors Facilitate incorporation of active learning approaches by faculty Facilitate cross departmental instruction to bring in new topics- big data, bioinformatics Current strengths: Excellent faculty Rigorous programs serving majors and non-majors Low barriers to cross department faculty interactions

7 COS Advising Current strengths: Culture of successful professional and departmental undergraduate advising Goals : Facilitate smooth transition for School of Life Sciences advising Maintain/strengthen the local advising model/ interface with new 1 st year advising plans in themed residential communities Facilitate outreach and contact to COS students to improve retention at all achievement levels, including minority students Concerns: Recruitment and retention, especially for minority students

10 Overall Goals Facilitating a collaborative environment between faculty, COS administration, advisors to further educational mission Furthering the creation of a welcoming environment in the COS to students Facilitating new or strengthening existing courses and laboratories to continue bringing high quality instruction to students
