Colons A colon is used to call attention to the words that follow it. They can be used in a variety of ways. : Colon

A colon can be used after an independent clause to introduce a quote. –EX – Consider the words of John F. Kennedy: “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for you country.”

Practice I understand Kermit the Frog’s famous motto :“It’s not easy being green.” I’ll never forget the famous words of Julius Caesar :“I came, I saw, I conquered.”

Colons (2) A colon can be used after an independent clause to introduce a list. –EX – Your daily work out routine should include a variety of exercises: twenty sit-ups, forty push-ups, and one hundred jumping- jacks.
