p5 RJM 20/06/06Teaching & Learning Report – June 06 Meeting © Dr Richard Mitchell 2006 On Fees and Retention The new Fees system means that a student who leaves before Dec 1 st pays no fee a student who leaves after pays the fee for a whole year To be fair to students, we need to let them know this and give appropriate advice Therefore we will improve on the system we trialled this year re checking the progress of Part 1 students By week 5, all Part 1 modules will have a means of assessing the extent to which each student is engaging So by week 7 we will have relevant information for all tutors, who will have a second PAR meeting, which will specifically be for checking on progress ….

p6 RJM 20/06/06Teaching & Learning Report – June 06 Meeting © Dr Richard Mitchell 2006 On Coursework Deadlines To help both the Student Information Centre and Students we will have a better system for setting coursework deadlines. All deadlines for 2007/8 will be agreed BEFORE Oct 2007 Andrew Adams will look at this year’s deadlines and discuss with colleagues their requirements If you have new coursework, talk to Andrew For new courses we will allow some flexibility

p7 RJM 20/06/06Teaching & Learning Report – June 06 Meeting © Dr Richard Mitchell 2006 On Extensions, Plagiarism, etc Students wanting an extension on coursework should discuss with the relevant lecturer a provisional extension length – please respond if they contact you – and if possible initial the form to say you agree. The form comes to me to decide if an extension is warranted I want to develop a system where such requests are stored searchable to find who has an extension (not reasons) and potentially to identify problematic cases The system will also record Extenuating Circumstances And instances of plagiarism – which you should report And probably record student progress during year

p8 RJM 20/06/06Teaching & Learning Report – June 06 Meeting © Dr Richard Mitchell 2006 On Blackboard and Lecture Notes All School modules should have presence on Blackboard – we will be reviewing its use All lecture notes should be available through Blackboard A master copy of your notes should be in G44 Please provide these early enough so that Glennys/Helen can have them photocopied by the Print Unit It is a waste of your time to do your own copying Glennys/Helen know how many copies are needed Spare copies should be returned to G44 So students don’t bother you when they miss a lecture
