Class Schedule Basic Overview -- Some sections take more time than others. Day 1(7): (Previous chapter test) Hand out chapter notes, homework problem sets & formal problem assignments Day 2: Go over 1 st section of notes Day 3/4: Lab or work day Day 5: Problem set #1 due – Formal Presentation of Problems Day 6: Quiz, New Section Notes Repeat Days 3-6 until all sections are done Day 7(1): Test
5
Absences They should get the work they missed from me. They need to schedule Quiz and Test make-ups with me. During study halls, before school or after school.
6
Grading System 50% Summative Assessments Titled “Test” in the grade book Includes: Tests, Formal Lab Reports, Larger Culminating Labs in their notebooks & Projects 25% Quizzes Titled “Quiz” in the grade book Includes: Quizzes, Formal Presentations & Lab notebooks 25% Miscellaneous Titled “Homework” in the grade book Includes: Homework, Lab Prep, Journal Writings, Test Corrections
7
Homework & Formal Presentations Each Homework Problem Set is worth 20 points. Each student is randomly assigned a problem to present for each problem set in every unit. The problem is graded on accuracy, explanation, presentation & response to question. Worth 20 points Formal Presentation Rubric Formal Presentation Rubric
8
Quizzes Similar to problems done for homework 1 – 3 questions Given after most sections 10 – 25 points in value
9
Tests Set up like the AP Chemistry Exam Multiple Choice & Free Response Questions – 100 points total 20 Multiple Choice questions varying in difficulty (2 points each) 6 Free Response Questions varying in difficulty (10 points each) – must show work and/or give explanation when required. Allowed to fix all or a portion of the test for half credit which will be entered into the “Homework” section. This must be done in school – tests do not get taken home.
10
Labs Approximately 3 - 4 a marking period Done in Lab Notebooks Guidelines for Keeping a Lab Journal Guidelines for Keeping a Lab Journal One each marking period will be a formal lab report AP Chemistry Lab Reports
11
Projects 1 Project each Marking Period Some will be group projects, others will be individual. 100 points each For group projects there is a reflection piece where each student has to highlight the contributions of each member of the group
12
Miscellaneous Memorize Packet – Information that students will memorize through out the year. Done on an as needed basis. Memorize Packet Field Trips – Depends on school funds, timing, availability, etc.
